Guidelines for Article Critiques

Objective:

To critically understand, summarize and communicate the main points of the assigned article, and to point out relevant flaws.

PIN Numbers:

To preserve confidentiality, you will be asked to select a 4-digit pin number. You will identify yourself on papers with this number.

Format:

Papers must be typed and as long as necessary to communicate the following:

• Summary of the existing theory
• Statement of the question or issue the author is addressing
• A summary of the author’s findings
• A critique of the article

All papers must have a cover page that indicates the name of the article, the article’s author and your PIN number, with a space for the PIN number of your grader.

Example:

Article Name: “Economics of Development and the Development of Economics”

Article Author: Bardhan

Critique Author PIN: ____8712_____

Grader PIN: ___________

Late Papers will not be accepted.

Grading:

Papers will be exchanged with your peers for grading. Once your peers have graded your paper, paper will be turned in to me for a final evaluation. You will be evaluated both on your own paper and on the quality of the comments on your peer’s papers.
